Brooke Mackenzie Gist is currently a 4th year BFA Dance candidate at The Ohio State University on track to graduate in May 2022. She was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois and attended Whitney M. Young Magnet High school for 6 years with early acceptance where she served as Senior Class president, captain of the pre-professional dance team, and finished each semester as an honors student. At The Ohio State University, she is studying to obtain her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance along with a minor in Real Estate. During her experience at this university, she has been the president of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Theta Chapter, has been the Secretary of Black Students in Real Estate, been given the distinction of Arts Scholar, been crowned Miss Black and Gold and the African American Homecoming Queen for Ohio State, and more. During her collegiate experience as a dancer she is currently a senior Class Representative for the class of 2022, a Department of Dance Student Ambassador, has traveled to multiple states within the dance department on tour, traveled across the country with the Dance Brazil tour group, been in numerous faculty dance pieces, and is now preparing to travel on tour with the department to Paris, France in the spring of 2022 where she will be performing Anna Sokolow’s Rooms, and the solo track of Martha Graham’s Steps on the Street. She has been seriously committed to developing her artistry of dance since the age of thirteen where she has studied the art form in numerous places including, Kyle Abrahams’ Summer Intensive, Chicago Multicultural Dance Center, Thodos Dance Chicago, Joffrey Contemporary and Jazz Intensive, New York University Summer Intensive, Guys and Dolls Pre-Professional Dance Company, and International Association for Blacks in Dance, and more. Her goal is to join a professional dance company for the opportunity to tour and perform all over the world.
